Melbourne Shrine Of Remembrance is silent

Honouring Silence at the Shrine of Remembrance

Sontext Serenity Panels at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance

The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne is a place of solemn reflection and national significance. In designing its auditorium and education centre, ensuring quiet reverence was a critical consideration. Sontext Serenity Acoustic Panels were selected for this project to support the architectural intent while addressing acoustic challenges typical of large, open interior spaces.

Shrice Of Rememberence

Creating an Atmosphere of Respectful Silence

Working in collaboration with ARM Architecture and acoustic consultants Marshall Day Acoustics, Sontext supplied Serenity Panels that blended into the space without disrupting its visual heritage. These fabric-wrapped panels, mounted to walls and suspended from ceilings, absorbed sound to maintain a peaceful environment for both visitors and ceremonies.

Balancing Function with Design

Serenity Panels were selected for their ability to provide excellent sound absorption while matching the visual tone of the auditorium. This careful balance between function and form was essential in a setting where architectural legacy and acoustic clarity both matter deeply.

Why Acoustic Panels Matter in Public Memorial Spaces

In reflective environments like the Shrine, excessive reverberation can detract from speeches, performances, or guided tours. Acoustic treatment improves clarity and reduces distractions, allowing visitors to focus and reflect without strain or noise interference.
