Project Spotlight: Melbourne Grammar School Dining Room

Peter Elliott Architects worked closely with Acoustic Consulting Australia to design a decorative yet acoustically effective wall and ceiling solution for the school’s dining facility. Sontext was approached to develop a product that met the school’s visual design goals and acoustic needs, targeting a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.95.

The design called for the use of Tasmanian Oak slats in a light lime-wash finish. Murano Acoustic Wood Slat Panels were engineered using 19x40mm Tasmanian Oak battens mounted to a fire-rated, fabric-covered MDF substrate. Behind the panels, 25mm thick acoustic insulation was installed to achieve the desired sound control. The outcome was a functional, elegant dining room with significantly reduced background noise.
